I did the same exact repair except I used teflon tape and didnt drill but used various size taps to get to the size I wanted. Been working for over a month now no problems.

Guess what
Same thing happened to me this morning went out to wash the car smelled coolant opened bonnet just in time to get sprayed with coolant
Just waiting for flat top truck as I write this all I can say is lucky it didn't happen far from home

I used similar set up to replace the broken crown connector from coolant tank to radiator.
Chose to grind off threads , light coat of JB WELD and press fit the brass fitting into the radiator. Replaced hose and clamped . Cost $2.49 versus $35.00 for new hose.
Now the plastic hose is less likely to break off. { as it did from crown connector}

Regarding the taste of Dexcool, I read an article a while back that talked about always rinsing the ground or concrete when you have a coolant spill. It said that dogs and cats find coolant tasty....but it is very poisonous!

My neighbor have cats and always wandering to my house side so I did rinse the ground real good so no worry there. Thanks.

Yeah I washed the car driveway and all my clothes
Its a weird substance feels like sugar syrup when dried on your skin and clothes
