If you can get the car set up to do the work, jacks, blocks, wheel removal, etc. and bat disconnected within 30 minutes of last "ignition off" you do not have to restart. The car checks the suspension set up 30 minutes after last ign. off.

You should be able to get the car positioned for the operation and batt. disconnected in the 30 min allowed before the car suspension finds out it's being tampered with.

Once you disconnect the bat. the system is in "suspended animation" so to speak, you have all the time in the world.

Ok so its all done! This is how I did it, anybody that want to add any corrections please do so below.

First I drove the car around for a bit then turned it off and jacked it up, removed both front wheels and supported the wheel hubs with jack stands.

I disconnected the battery within 30 mins of turning the car off.

Then...

Then remove the air spring.

Install is the reverse of the removal.

When you are done connect the battery and start the car. Should raise right up!

If anybody is doing the job and want the full size pics just send me a message with your email.

Nice job with the pictures. Beats anything I've seen from the manuals we use. Thanks for taking the time to do it right. George.

Default Air susp work

Great post and detail!! I wondered why the brake line had to be disconnected and did you need to bleed system? Was holding the height while working touchy? Could you please send the pics to me : powertoys@bellsouth.net at your convenience.

Thanks

Just sent the pics,

There is no need to bleed the system because you never actually open the line, but i should be removed because of the travel of the wheel assembly.

no kidding, i worked on f-16 in the air force and the manuals are step by step with absolutly nothing left out of the process, each screw bolt nut and torque spec and sequence right there. Dont have to go looking in other areas, and all with very details descriptions and pics. On the other hand our workshop manuals leave alot unsaid, no pics when should have them, have to look in other areas for torque specs, and many many jobs theres no proceedures for

This looks really easy, and it's something I've done before on other cars. However, is it usually the front struts that go bad? Or the rears?

They're not that expensive. I just looked some genuine ones on JPAM Jaguar Parts (vendor on the forum) and they were about $900 each. Those are still incredibly expensive, but not too bad if you can do the labor yourself. (Now that I know fixing the air suspension could only potentially be maybe $1500 to repair myself, then it's not so bad. I thought I would be spending $5k if the suspension ever failed!)

What just happened?! How did my post go before yours?

The fronts go bad usually. MAN THOSE AIR SPRINGS ARE EXPENSIVE, like $1500 a piece though. I had a rear one that blew out because it was rubbing on the parking brake cable. But that was a 04 XJ. The fronts leak before the rears.

I was looking at the pics of the work and wondering why the height sensor link was disconnected from the control arm if the hubs were supported in position. I thought that removing the height sensor connection was a no-no. In looking at the pics, I didn't see any hub support but maybe it was out of the picture.

Who told you removing the height sensor connection is a no-no? Isn't the point of removing it to avoid hyperextending it (and damaging it)?
