Default Drive Shaft Banging

I'm glad to be part of this forum.

I have a 2004 XJ8, anytime I put it on drive or revers I hear a bang sound from the shaft almost like an other car hit me from behind, all engine mounts and transmission mounts are in perfect condition. And when on top speed and you apply brakes same drive shaft banging sound is heard. Car drives perfectly except those issues. Has anyone experienced such issues before and how was it fixed?

Welcome to the forum Morris,

You've already posted a separate Intro so I've moved your question to I've moved your question from X350 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

I had a similar issue with my XJR - it sounded (and felt) like someone had thrown a brick at the car above the rear wheels when changing from drive into reverse, or whenever there would be backlash from the drive shaft.

The rear diff was removed and refitted and the noise ceased. I didn't do the work but was told there were two fixings to at the top to the body and one on the side via a rubber piece. I suspect one of the upper ones was loose.
