Default Engine air filter recommendations

Can anyone recommmend a particular brand of engine air filter? I'm tempted to go with the K&N 33-2273 at $49.99. Sorry, I searched the forum but was unable to locate info on this topic, so I apologize if this has already been discussed somewhere.

I like the K&N's. Good air-flow, cleanable and good for life. I have then in three of my vehicles.

And just for arguments sake, I was getting tired of the codes being thrown for MAF. Also following the cleaning of a very dirty throttle body (which affects performance!); I decided to never use an oil absorbed filter again.

I custom built a cold air, it constantly threw fault through my MAF. I took of the intake, oil filter, no faults too. The car just seems to be unable to use oil filters lol

Use a premium paper filter. Reusable ones like the K&N don't filter as well. I use Napa or Wix.
Fram used to be good but if their air filters are like their oil filters, they are junk.

I have used K&N filters for years and never had problems, can I ask the guys who are getting codes did this happen with new fresh fitted filters or recently cleaned filters? I have never seen a K&N that is so wet with oil it would leak onto the MAF. I am using Paper filters in my Jags at the moment but I am considering a K&N for my XJR as I do feel they give better air flow.

My filter was brand new. The MAF did get some sorta film on it. Cleaned it, bought paper filter, re-installed original intake, fault hasn't returned. Now my only fault is that dang engine system, parking break, no DSC, and the glorious limp home mode. I about to report this problem to the department of transportation if it put me and my family at risk. Campaign for a recall! Rant over, lol B-)

I go with Coopers Fiaam filters. They are out of the EU and are somtimes sold on Ebay. If one wants to stay as close to the origional equipment air filter then this is it. They are about half the cost $20.00 vs the OEM air filter at $40.00. Here is a picture of the two filters, the one on the right is the Coopers Fiaam Filter PA7473 and the one on the left is OEM filter that says Visteon...look identical.

Been there, done that. New battery and complete discharge the electrical system put me back in order.

As I like a clean engine bay: liquid electrical tape is my friend.

This has become a hot topic almost like engine oil preferences ;o))

I personally have used K&N oiled reuseable filters for years without a drama.
I sometimes think the reason owners get codes thrown using oiled filters is because of that....over oiled!
It fouls up the MAF throwing a code.

If you follow K&N's instructions on how to re-lube a filter after it has been cleaned, you will realise it takes very little oil to properly lube the filter.
This requires using the proper K&N filter oil....not just an oil can with engine oil like some people I know who have done this then complain the filter is no good and a rip off.....duuuuuugh!

The filter mounted properly will provide an increase of around 5-6bhp.
Some people advocate the use of cold air systems but in the real world, there is no real advantage unless you intend to do a lot of track work.

I have been using a K&N for about 5 months . I put the car in the shop for a engine protection problem twice and a friend told me how to clean the MAF, 5 minutes with contact cleaner and the problem went away. Then the K&N went into the car and no problems.
