Default 2003 XJ 3.0 V6 - Fault code P1638

Hello folks,

I have an intermittent fault on my 2003 XJ 3.0 V6, it has happened a few times now, where all the dash lights come on, speedo and rev counter drop to zero, oil guage goes to the top, and all the warnings flash up gearbox fault, air suspension fault, DSC not available etc etc.

If I pull over and switch off and start the car the fault seems to clear but the MIL light stays on for a few more start stops.

After doing two different diagnostic checks via the OBD it shows the fault P1638.

I have done a bit reading and research online and have discovered this Jaguar service bulletin seems to be regarding the same fault.

Has anybody had any success by clearing this fault by using this method?

Thank you in advance for any replies

Jimmy

No, I've not had that particular fault, and hope I don't, either ! May I suggest the work program in the TSB is followed, and then let us know if it cured it.

I guess he didn't cure it?
I'm going to be having a go at the same thing, as my 2003 XJ6 has exactly the same problem and I was just about to put it up for sale!

I had all of same with all except limp home mode. Happened a bit after I connected Scan Guage OBDII monitor to OBDII connector under dash. Disconnected, cleared code with an iCarsoft scanner, replaced battery with AC/Delco AGM and never had a problem again. It was a connector issue. Left it with an local independent Jag shop to drive for a week to make sure.
