Default Flashing the ECU

I live in the North Dallas area. I need to get the ECU flashed on my 2005 XJR. Both cars have a lurching issue with the transmission when I get up to 3,000 RPM. Both cars sat for an extended period of time without battery connections. I suspect they may have lost some memory. How difficult is this for a DYI project? I have limited skills when it comes to the electronics on the car.

Mike

Sitting will only have cleared the learned values about the engine and those will be relearned without need of any clearing (or any other intervention).

If it doesn't fairly soon run properly you have one or more faults and in that case do not get anything cleared as you need to fix the faults first.

retaildad;

I'm also in the Dallas area. Following up on JagV8's input...… do you have a scanner that will read Jaguar specific fault codes? Search this forum for the "DTC Summaries" file that will provide some explanation of these codes. Please be aware a simple OBDII scanner will not be capable of reading Jaguar specific codes. You can get more info by searching this forum.

Best Regards, William

Thanks for the response. Is there a particular scanner that you recommend?

LAND ROVER JAGUAR DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER TOOL ABS AIRBAG CODE READER iCarsoft i930 about $110 or so depending on where you look.

I have the above which is easy to use. I believe there is an updated version available now as well.

Many on this forum have it.

Also have the JLR SDD which does allow reflashing etc as well as diagnosis however is not that simple to use and is bulky compared to the iCarsoft device.
