Default Front Brakes

I have stalled replacing the front pads and rotors for some time now. I now need to do this.

Expensive no matter which way I turn. Have a dealer quote of $717.00 and a European shop for $631.00.

Never done this before so I guess I am asking is this about right. New pads and new rotors and labor. Mileage is 62,000.

Thanks

Sounds like a lot of money. Buy the rotors and pad ahead of time unless the euro place quotes you a similar price.

Many of us have gone to Rockauto.com for parts. The Jag OEM rotors are nice.

That sounds a lot. But are you going to do the job yourself or pay for someone else to do the job? Spanner chuckers also need to eat, just a question of is it Burgers and Fries, or Filet Mignon and Buzet. I know which I'd prefer;-)

Try http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/ja...#popupContact_

They seem to have quite a selection available.

Brakes on this car are very standard, the pads are about $80/pair, the rotors are about $120/pair , the rest is labor and sounds very high. A front brake job is about a 1.5 hour job,I do this myself and save the labor. It's also possible that the rotors are fine if they are not pulsing or too thin. I don't replace them if they are not pulsing or too thin, they will work fine. At the worst, replacing the pads and rotors at your shop will be $240 in parts with $460 in labor or $306 per hour! I'll do it for that.

Just curious. My previous S-Types had brakes that were common to the Lincoln. I could buy new front rotors and pads for less than $150.

Does the XJ also have commonality to any Ford product?

Not talking about "R" models here.

David which places did you get the quotes from? I can get you high quality pads and rotors for less then $200 and probably installed for another $100 or so by a very high quality place that prepares race cars and such.

PM me for my # if you dont still have it, id be more then happy to help you out!
