Default Fuel & Oil for 08 XJ8

The sticker inside my fuel tank lid doesn't display what fuel type I need to run in XJ8. Is it horrible for me to be cheap? 87 Octane?

Also, I just got my first oil change. Should I be switching to synthetic?

The owner's manual will tell you that it's minimum 91AKI octane. Higher than that is waste. The same manual will tell you which oils types and viscountcies to use.

Here is an extract

Oil specification An oil of 5W-30 viscosity to Jaguar specification WSS M2C913 - B must be used in all vehicles. For top up purposes only, where the WSS M2C913 - B specification cannot be found, ACEA A3/B3 or ACEA A1/B1 specification oils may be used. SAE viscosity rating For climates ranging from –30°C (–22°F) and +50°C (+122°F), the following oil viscosities may be used: 0W–30 5W–30 (preferred) 0W–40 5W–40
