Well, I've looked around a bit and haven't found the answer, so I'll ask. Has anyone done a conversion from the stock halogens to the factory optional HIDs? I'm talking changing out the headlight housings and everything so as to take advantage of the DOT approved projectors and so on. If anyone has done it or knows if it is possible, would I need to replace wiring harnesses too, or do the HIDs use the same plugins as the halogens do?

I've done this on one of my old cars (a 2003 Ford SVT Focus). Was not cheap as I bought the parts straight from Ford. Ended up being around $1200 for the housings, harness, bulbs, ballasts, basically the entire optional HID units, but I had the money to blow at the time and REALLY wanted them. They ended up working better than I could have imagined, so I'd prefer to stick with the factory HID units as opposed to just sticking an eBay HID conversion kit in there.

That said, if it is going to be cost prohibitive, I will likely just take the cheaper eBay route... About $40 shipped for proper lights is just fine by me.
