Hi! seems to be a simple question: does replacing/swapping head light requires changes in programming via SDD?
I was scanning car using SDD and it said that can't communicate to right head lamp. that is basically the jist.
The right light have been replaced with same type (HID) from e-bay. the ballast went with new headlight. I know there is something funky with that light, but can't put a finger on it: Car has to be in drive and I have to be outside to compare left and right lights. Did not get to ask wife to get behind the wheel.
Is there anything been taken for granted when headlight was replaced?
True, just switch the lights from "auto" to "on", and then they should be on regardsless of whether the car is in gear, or not.
Apart from this, HID is not equal to HID with the Jag. Jaguar made some changes in the HID lights during the production of the X350-X358.
If I understand you correctly, you could switch the ballast from the old headlight to the new one, so at least there the headlights are the same (there are two types of ballast with different nos of pins).
Second thing: being a 2004 car, your headlights still should have the additional electric motor for the height levelling adjustment, and, as far as I know, this was later omitted by Jaguar, the reason being that the levelling can be done by the air suspension.
Does the replacement headlight also have this motor? If not, it might be a cause for differences.
I am not aware of any adjustment needed via SDD, only that of course you need to set the correct beam height manually.
Thank you, Thomas!
As always very informative, useful and right down to the point!
Thank you for pointing that switching from auto nanny mode will make lights on all the time. How quickly we got used to these 'watching after us' gizmos!
The new headlight has motor. So, it is good there.
I still have original ballast, I will be pulling bumper off during break. I wanted to check air compressor mountings as well.
Yesterday, I run SDD scanning function and it complained "Communication failure..... right lighting control module"
I guess in SDD speak it is this:
Headlamp leveling module per wiring diagram...
Happy to report:
The problem was bad ballast. some time ago I had to replace headlight due to road debris damage. I got head light from e-bay. The headlight was direct replacement: HID with adjustable height headlights. Not giving two hoots about it, it went to rep[lace broken. I noticed some flickering and some funny stuff like headlight was not too bright. Almost borderline superficial. I was playing with SDD last week and noticed that it can't communicate to replaced headlight module.
Today I swapped ballast to original and all back to nice and happy! Both ballasts are LAD5G not GL!
The beam is now bright and strong. SDD communicates to both headlights.
