Help with identifying odd piece.
I bought my 04 XJ8 used with 58,000+ miles on it and most records except the code for the key fob. Along with several other small parts that had either broken or fallen off at some point (small center cap, rear child restraint anchor garnish cover, etc.) I found, in the glove box, a small metal tag approx. 2 1/2" long by 1" wide that looks to have been spot welded to some under car component with six spot welds. It is bare unprotected metal and has a slight curvature to it as if it had been attached to something spherical in shape. (possibly a muffler or similar).
It is covered in stamped on numbers the meaning of which I do not as yet have a clue.

This is how the stampings appear as close as I could get to correct spacing and relative position. The 'W' in the third line is actual smaller then all the other letters and the stamping is of a much poorer quality and is barely discernible. Almost as if it has been manually stamped just prior to being attached to the vehicle. It does not look distressed in any way so either the welds simply were poor to start with and it eventually vibrated loose, or it was intended to be easily removable for some reason of which I am unaware.
Any help including partial code breaking would be much appreciated. I 'm pretty good at sniffing out things if I have even a slim lead as to what they are or where they belong.
Thanks

Thanks PSG. I tried Google without much luck but felt that it probably originated in the exhaust area or close by. It isn't severely weathered but perhaps his converter was fouled and had to be replaced early, OR, he removed it and installed a "TEST" pipe (Ha Ha) and saved the piece in case he had to do a hurry-up replacement. I'll have to take a look tomorrow.
