Default How to cancel the limiter?

Hello Everybody!

My car was produced for the US market and because of this, it has a top speed limiter to 200km/h.

Is it possible to cancel this limiter?

I hope you were concentrating on the road when you took that picture! Do not know if I would go that fast with the check engine light on. I do not think you can cancel the limiter, but it may be changed by the dealer if your laws permit it.

I thought the speed limiter let you hit like 150 maybe the check engine light limits him to 125 ish

No! It has never gone more than 200kph. These cars are sold for the US market with a limiter at 200kph. Check engine light does not make and difference...

Of course I was concentrating on the road while taking the picture...

Dealers do not cancel the limiter for me. They said "If you want to go faster, buy a car in Europe. Cars made for US market have a limiter and Jaguar headquaters do not allow canceling them!'

I've driven X-Types faster than that(132mph) and new XJs(x350) at 150mph. Something else is limiting you. Why is the check engine light on? That could very well be the reason. Jaguar warranty doesn't cover stupid and almost any code that turns on the light limits performance for protection of the engine from damage.

Weren't you having a "restricted performance" problem a few days ago? Was that resolved?

I had never heard of speed limiters on the USA cars before. When did this start?

Cheers

They have been limited all along. I think the limit is actually 155mph but I have never had one at that speed to verify. The X-types I have had topped out never made it past about 132mph. I'm not sure if the X is limited there or if they were just out of *****. I had a customer that had just bought a new '05 XKR and brought it back a week later saying the car wouldn't go over 155mph. The factory reps said too bad so sad, that's the limit in the U.S. and we aren't changing it. And no your local tech cannot change it with the IDS. If you want higher speed you will have to go with either an aftermarket ECM or aftermarket programming of your existing ECM. It will be interesting to see if the new 5.0 supercharged cars are limited to 155 also. If they are, at least they will get there in a hurry.

Right, I wasn't very clear. I knew about the 155 mph limiters but hadn't heard of a 120 mph one.

Some USA cars have had different speed limiters according to what tires are fitted. Not sure if something like that might be going on with Jaguar. Doesn;t sound right for Jaguar, though<shrug>

A "trusted source" () informs me that, yes, USA/Canada X350s, normally aspirated, are limited to 199 kmh so that Jaguar can spec a softer sidewall, "H" speed rating tire for that market....as opposed to the "V" (or higher?) speed rating used ROW.

He went the thru the same dilemma and was told that so much of the car's market specific electrical architecture is instrument cluster dependent that it cannot be reprogrammed to change only the speed limiter.

Yes I did have restricted performance problems a few days ago. It disappeared, but check engine light stayed on... Going to the service right now. I just checked my mails in the morning, service is opening in an hour so I have to leave now.

But it was only a few days ago. I drive the car for sixmonths now and it has always been limited to 200kph. Never been able to go faster. At Jaguar they told me it is normal, that cars from US are limited to this speed....

It is just makes me angry, when I drive a 4.2l V8 and any diesel BMW or Audi can leave me on the highway.....

my car hits 159mph (255kph) on the highway and its more or less the same engine (minus the s/c).. so I cant understand why Jaguar would change the limiter, just because they cheaped out on the tires.. [>:] Someone should write an angry letter to corporate!

Just a silly guess here, but maybebecause they're a little worried about someone driving 159 mph on tires rated for only 130 mph ???

In the tire spec there is the following note:
Note: * Only fitted to USA and Canadian cars, limited to 195 km/h (121 mile/h).

Just tested it out on a lonely county road.
2004 XJ8 4.2 (NOT supercharged), nice acceleration up to 200kph (124.27 mph) Then the limiter kicked in and you could feel it. The car is definitely limited to 200kph.

Remember seeing on Top Gear that the XJR is limited to 155 mph like the BMW they were comparing. You can find it on U-tube I believe... Here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkM7P...eature=related

About 1/3 to 1/2 way into the clip...
