Default How to remove the rear view mirror

Hello everyone:
I am going to put a rear view and front view mirror camera on my 2005VDP. It looks like this is easier than just a rear view camera factory hookup. How do you remove the rear view mirrow on the front windshield? Is this relatively easy or a PITA?

It's a failry easy job.
You remove the plastic cover on the base near the windscreen, unplug the sensor and then you can remove the mirror by sliding it out of the bracket attached to the windscreen.

The workshop manual is also availabe in the forrum, you can check the procedure, there, as well.

Best regards,

Thomas

my recollection is that the mirror must be slid parallel to the glass to avoid putting undue pressure on the glass and breaking the windshield. That recollection is, I think, from anX308, but I can't imagine the general mechanics of the mirror fastening/removal have changed.

I just did this job last night. You don't need to push or pry on anything, just twisting. To remove the mirror, remove the plastic cover, then rotate the base ~45 degrees counter-clockwise.

To re-install, slot the mirror over the hex nut ~45 degrees to the left, then rotate clockwise ~45 degrees to lock the base on.

I was confused for a bit, but how it goes on/off makes sense once you see a picture of the lock and nut assembly.
