Many very good ideas here since my last post. I took a trip and would like to add:

> Change message and center screens to reduce reflections on bright days and to be visible with polarized sunglasses.

> Either my nav system has never worked fully or it is an abysmally poor implementation of such. When I am in a major city and looking for a (gas station, Tim Hortons) which is 10 miles away and has been so for many years do not show closest locations 200 miles away. Semi-useful under limited circumstances. Some days I think it is a POS.

> Have a electrical outlet on the roof center console.

> So I can use the drivers sun visor fully have something besides the windshield that I can clip my radar detector to. Also for an excess garage door opener or increase the number of radio signal buttons from 3 to 5.

I would trade in my X350 if the new XJ looked like the B99, oh well guess I am keeping my X350 for awhile longer

I agree the B99 would have been a much more graceful XJ replacement, in contrast to the current offering.

I like the fluted grill and rear plinth idea, but what it really needs is longer lasting bushings or at least bushings that can be easily changed rather than providing only new arms at big $$$$.

+1 regarding the bushings

Some years back I was lucky enough to score the European spec X350 Daimler fluted grill and boot plinth on ebay for just $150. Easily the best modification I've done to my car.

Simple, just make a XJ8 !!!!!!!!!!!
Talking to my local dealer, he offered to buy my 06 VDP outright. He didn't have 1 XJ8 on the lot, and he said they sell in the blink of an eye. EVERYONE loves the styling. I'm sorry we sold our 2000 XJ8 as that was twice as beautiful as our 06.

Detailed requests:
REPLACE THE PLASTIC THERMOSTAT HOUSING WITH A METAL ONE (like the XJR)!!
Have the air ride auto lower at 60mph, instead of 100mph.
Better A/C vent knobs, that don't break off when exposed to sunlight.
Place for my smartphone, with USB connector of course.
Better brake cooling, as the damn discs warp if you even look at the brake pedal.
Better sun screen coverage around the rear view mirror.
Better headliner glue. I've had to have this repaired on every XJ8, due to heat.
Radar cruise control/anti collision/lane departure warning systems.

Confused, they did a X350 XJ8...

Never had a warped disc on my XJ6 or Super V8, this only seems to happen because or sticking calipers.

My Super V8 has got radar cruise & anti collision warning as standard. Blind spot and lane assist would be good though.

Major: V-12 (elevates car to the next level)
Lower rear axle gear and limited slip (XJ8 accelerates slow, V12 and lower gears would remedy)
Manual input to height adjust (bumper scrapes on curbs)
J-Gate can engage 1st gear (increase acceleration)

Minor: Air suspension rises in rear and lowers front on acceleration, and same side-to-side cornering to keep car level and minimal squat/lean
Wood on dash surrounds dials like on XK (looks nicer)
Exhaust bypass opens at engine start and +3/4 throttle (sounds like proper performance car)
Larger sunvisor that slides/extends and second sunvisor behind (1998 Ford Explorer had this current allows head to fry)
Sunroof auto opens 3" when interior temp hot, closes with input from rain sensor, glass replaced or covered by solar panel
Better horns (current sound like wimps)
Eliminate sport button (this function should activate with moving J-Gate lever to manual)
Better quality suspension bushings, metal thermo housing and oil pan, headliner glue, etc.

My XJ is beautiful, rock solid, handles great, is better for me than any current automobile, and resources allowing I will implement the above including a current V12 from an Aston Martin or Rolls Royce and a second horn that growls when someone is in my way (like an old Plymouth Road Runner beeped).

I'm not sure about the longer life bushes, and eliminating CATs - the XJ is a Sports Saloon, a style of car that Jag have long championed.

It's a large saloon with large car comfort but with sports car performance and that requires the ability to switch from a limo suspension to a sports car suspension characteristic, hence CATs. The bushes on the other hand can't too hard (which would give a longer life) otherwise they'd transmit too much road vibration for a car that must also cruise in comfort.

The dual nature of the car comes at a price and CATs and 'long term consumable' bushes are part of that.

I have a 308 and a 350. Prefer the clock dial, soft leather, more characteristic body shape, especially from the rear, and the front opening hood on the 308. Love the drastically fewer standard failures of the 350. I'm glad to hear that the VDP and Super V8 leather is softer than the base models' on the 350. Is the stitching/color/piping the same on the two, or is the super V8 more similar to the base model in appearance?

REALLY dislike the subtle difference in the 350 clock dial, so I may take it out and apart to see if it can be restyled. Wouldn't be so bad if it weren't right there in front of me at all times.

Jaguar need to at least offer some comfort with these cars, we don't all want to drive like lunatics !! So smaller diameter wheels like 16" as an option would be nice. Previous Jaguar saloons seemed to manage perfectly well on fatter tyres and smaller wheels.

I really hate the cheap turn signal sound. My old gone-but-not-forgotten XJ6 SIII had the grandfather clock tick-tock sound that even the new Rolls-Royces do not have.

Doesn't the current and past generations have some sort of limited slip traction control?

Just 4 updates would be perfect
1. Updated infotainment system (birds eye view would be really useful)
2. Steering wheel could travel more in/out for taller drivers (I like when steering wheel is close and legs stretched
3. Suspension would benefit a lot from update (better reliability, more algorithms)
4. Limited slip differential on all models (I already got stuck in snow...)

Other than that, these cars are perfect
