Cool Intermittant Clunking in front end

Hello fellow members! I recently had my front left suspension replaced after hitting a nasty pothole. The knuckle, control arms, Tie rod, and Arnott air strut were replaced. I have only driven it less than 150 miles. Today after driving the car for about about an hour I started to here a clunk when going over small bumps at 30-40 miles mph. When I reached the highway it seemed to go away when going over 50 mph. When I got off the highway it came back. I drove directly to my mechanic and turned the car off to go inside to discuss with him. He will look at the car tomorrow morning. When I got back in the car and drove the car home, about a 10 minute drive, the clunk disappeared. I am baffled. Is it possible the new shock is losing pressure during the hour drive and then refilling itself when I stop. Only thing I can think of. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi Vader,

I’d have your mechanic check out the thrust arm bushings. They tend to participate in that clunking dance party our suspensions suffer from after glorious years or road adventures. Let us know how that turns out and good luck!

Sway bar bushings are a pretty common culprit for low speed thumps....just did mine.

I concur, they were the culprit with my car, as well. Unfortunately, they were the last thing I replaced, next time they will be the first thing!

Best regards,

Thomas
