Hi all,
I'm sure I've read somewhere that you shouldn't jack an X350 up one corner at a time, owing to the possibility of twisting the aluminium body.
To my horror, I left my Jag with the tyre shop to change one tyre and got back to find it up on a trolley jack, just on the nearside front. I believe it was probably up there for about 10 minutes.
Does anyone know if this would have caused any damage?
Thanks in advance
When I got a set of new tyres and had the wheels refurbished, I jacked all four corners but later realised that where I had supported the rear wheels was slightly different side to side. One side had slight clearance between the axle stand and the body. I shimmed it to even it up, but the body is so rigid that it didn't twist or sag at all over a few days. Apparently the x350 is much more rigid than the xj40 and x300/308, even though it is in aluminium rather than steel.
I bet you remember the stories about the Allegro, where if you jacked them wrong, the rear window popped out!
It's all up in the air! Awaiting tyre change and wheel refurb.
When I used to change my wheels over for the winter and back again in Spring I would just do one corner at a time , did it for maybe 10 years with no issues . Ok, I used to have to start the engine sometimes to get the suspension to rise up again in order to pull the jack out after lowering it., but no other issues.
Thanks for the replies, whenever I have a tyre changed - I usually insist that the shop either use a lift or 2 jacks to lift the front or rear evenly. Absolutely correct Chris, despite the advice in the manual there is only one jack so in the event you have to change a wheel at the roadside, there's no choice. I'm hoping there'll be no problems!
