Does the iPhone issue happen when you use Bluetooth or just the phone or both?

The noise only happens for me when I use the phone in regular handset mode. If I use a headset of any kind, or put it on speaker it sounds fine. You might say it's actually a safety mechanism, as it forces me to use a headset ;-)

Don't take the phone back. The headset that comes free with the phone actually works pretty well. This is the first headset/phone combo wired or bluetooth that I've ever been happy with. You don't need to spend any extra $$$ on a new headset or a bluetooth ear piece, the Apple one works great.

Hey everyone,

I have the factory bluetooth installed on my XJ and I'm considering getting the Iphone 4 when it hits verizon. Does anyone have any problems with interference between the iphone 4 and the factory bluetooth system?

Thank you,

Mathew

Wow your post really adds a lot to this thread. ^^^

Now back to the topic. No one knows if the verizon iPhone will act the same wAy. The antennas are designed differently so you will just have to wait and see

Question Need a Phone Number Favorites List for iPhone and other bluetooth phones

I have a pet peeve regarding the phone interface on my 2011 XJ. I have over 1400 contacts in my iPhone Contacts list, making it nearly impossible to find and select one from the directory to call using the touch screen. The voice command selection is fairly worthless. All they need to do is allow you to access your Favorites list, where iPhone users list their most frequently used phone numbers. OR allow you to create a new favorites list in the car phone interface. Most people repeatedly call only 10-15 numbers. The Audi S5 that I traded for this Jag had exactly that, and it took me literally 5 seconds to select and dial my most important numbers.

Only when we NEED to actually talk to people ! Personally, I find actual talk strangely satisfying

What is the bumper from apple? In my 2004 XJ8 the iphone 4 has the crackling noise at all times. In my 2011 XF it is not an issue. But the bumper will fix that? Thanks,

I've got the new Verizon iPhone 4 and I get pairing failed with my '07 XK. When I turn the car off and go back later the phone shows up on the phone list, but when press dock, it says docking failed. With a Droid X it pairs fine and all the features (phone book, last call list, ect.) work.

Start the car and push phone button and the car computer searches for bluetooth phone. At this point turn on bluetooth function of the Iphone 4. The car computer will find the iphone and pair up/dock with it. All the normal functionality will be there. Subsequently the process of pairing with your iphone will be automatic. I don't get any interference or signal problems either. I believe the trick to get the initial pairing is timing. The car computer has to be searching before the iphone 4's bluetooth system starts searching to get the right sequence. try it...hope it works for you.
Update: When I paired with my '07 XK it kept saying: paired failed. Then I would let the car sit (off position) for about 20 mins. and turn it back on. The iPhone was now on the list of paired phones, but when I tried to dock it would fail every time.
So after reading Celestial's post above, I let the car sit again for 20mins. and before going back to the car I turned off the iPhone bluetooth. Went back to the car, turned on the car, selected the iPhone from the phone list, pressed dock, then turned on iPhone bluetooth and that's when I got: phone connected ✔. Yahoo!

Thanks Celestial.

Wow - I just stumbled across this thread and it anwers a nagging question. My wife's cellphone (NOT an iPhone, by the way) makes the same crackling sound in both our Jags, which is why we were blaming the phone. My phone works great in both. She's been hasseling Verizon about it, and they've been saying the phone is fine. I'll get her a headset.

Thanks.

I've been living with this problem since ip4 launch day (6/29/10). It was incredibly annoying at first, but doesn't bother me so much anymore. I rarely make a phone call that lasts more than 60 seconds so it's alright. Well, it's not alright.. I think it's a terrible problem, but I love the phone and hope to keep my XJ for quite some time. Oh well.

Just use the speaker function when you talk. Or headset.
