Seems odd they could or would not help this person with a key for the car.

 

Success story! I ordered two aftermarket keys off Ebay, and took them to the dealership for cutting this afternoon. After a stern warning from the Service Manager not to think about circumventing his consultation fees, I was met by an affable Parts Department attendant for cutting. I was out the door in ~15 minutes all told.

In summation, I spent $28 on the keys and $21 on the cutting service. Right under $50 for two extra keys + fobs, programmed. Because I already had two functioning keys and no faults in the Security Module, I was able to self-associate the transponders without resorting to SDD. LCMJAGUAR, I realise this post is from 2013, but if you are still around, please may I ask a quick question of your expertise in this matter!

If I only have one key, but I get a blank cut to match, can I then programme those two keys, please?

 

]The short answer is no. The car allows you to add additional keys if you have two programmed keys. You would need access to Jaguar SDD dealership software, or consider reaching out to forum member Sone, who offers a key cutting + transponder programming service. Of course, ​​​​​​you can have this work done at dealership, but with the understanding it will be $300+. In my town, locksmiths advertised cutting the 6-cut TIBBE keys used in our cars, but I didn't try them. Lastly - once you have two keys programmed to the car - you'll be able to add your own! See my post above, I was able to get two extra keys cut, then self-programmed to my car, at $49 total.

 

From personal experience you need two keys that start the car.
A valet key will work, as the second key, if it starts the car.

 

My 2001 S-Type doors can't open (nor close) from the remote when the external temperature is above 10°C.
It works well on winter and early in the morning.
Any idea ?

I have a different problem with both keys.

I put them in and not always does the immobilizer recognize them. Sometimes the car starts first time and some times it starts after 4 or 5 attempts/turns.

I get steering wheel locked and lights flash twice when car does not ignite.

There is no pattern. I just don't know what will happen any time I go to start the car. It is the same for both keys.

I have replaced batteries and cleaned thoroughly both keys inside and out.

Do I need new keys or is there a problem with immobilzer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure about the problem might be , but I would think this is a good indication that its probably not the key transponder problem.

I think it might be steering wheel lock electrical fault
Probably need a visit to the dreaded dealership

 

Could you tell frequency of the key fob circuit board based on its physical appearance? Looking at my key fobs serial number 1X43-15K601-AJ your list suggests it is a 315MHz one. However, when I look at the circuit board and compare it to a number of circuit boards at ebay.uk it looks like 433MHz one. I live in Indonesia, by the way, and confused which one to buy. A store in Australia offers circuit boards with both frequencies.

The frequency for the key fob depends on what market the car was originally made for. If your car was sold new in Indonesia, it is 315MHz.

For example, I live in New Zealand which is region 3, but my car was made for Japan, which is region 1. My fob works on 315MHz.

Just got my 315MHz key fob from AliExpress, attempted to make a third key fob. Successfully programed the remote (lower part), but not the transponder (upper part).

After inserting the first and second working keys, I inserted the new key but the red light on the dashboard kept blinking for about 20 seconds before it went out, and the new key didn't work. The transponder was there inside the upper part. I suspect the key came with a wrong transponder specification; an ID60 chip. Upon browsing online shops I found out there are a variety of transponders: ID46, ID48, ID60, ID63, ID67, ID4C, ID13, T6, 4D63, ID46 PCF7936, G, 4D65. Which one should I get to make it work?

Would like to update you all on my attempt to make a third key, which I posted on November 6... I browsed around to find suggestion on types of transponder, found out somewhere mentioning ID13 or T13, forget exactly, unsuccessfully. Then speculated with the so called "SuperChip XT27" still didn't work. Finally out of curiosity I decided to get an Xhorse VVDI Mini Keytool, costed me $129. Things we solved in 5 minutes, cloning the working key using the toll and the superchip; the toll specifically asked for a superchip; it would do anything with the ID60 that came with the key fob.

Like the small key tool so much this $129 investment would help me do other things, including cloning key fob for other car as well.

Thanks to lcmjaguar and all contributors from someone who just now became proud owner of a full set of 2 working FOB keys and 2 working valet keys within only a few minutes of sitting in the driveway.
After years with only one working key I finally came across this, tested and found that one of the valet keys also started the car and so taught the car to listen to the other 2 keys, too. Happy, and much safer against accidentally dropping a key some time and be stranded and at the mercy of OEM prices to fix my dilemma
