Last week our '04 XJ8 VDP took on a new quirk. After removing the key from the ignition while the door was open the "door-open" chime continued to ding as if the key was still in the ignition. Of course the car won't lock or unlock w/ the keyless remotes but does lock/unlock with the key in the door (2 beeps every time). A similar situation was covered here a couple years ago. In that instance it was the little door on the ignition barrell that wasn't closing when the key was removed but it seems to be closing just fine in my case. I dabbed a little oil on the key to oil the door as mentioned in that thread but that didn't do the trick either.
Any ideas?

Was going to suggest lubricating the ignition flap as thats seems to be the usual fix on the X Type which uses the same ignition barrel/flap.
Try spraying with WD40 and inserting/removing the key a good few times and see if that helps.

I tried it with WD40 tonight to see if that would do any better than the oil. It didn't seem to but I messed with the barrel flap a little more and finally got the chime to stop (but only after messing w/ the flap quite a bit). However, even after messing w/ the flap and getting the chime to stop - the car still will not lock with either remote and still beeps when locked w/ the key.
With all of the problems listed on this forum that I've seen (and unfortunately already started experiencing) I haven't seen any listing "ignition barrel replacement". Just looking for any other options before taking it to the shop.
