Question License plate screws?

So, i finally got around to throwing my plates on my 04 XJR, and the generic license plate screws from Advanced Auto Parts dont fit! They seem to be way to fat. So now im curious, what kind of screws does this thing take? Anyone have a clue? Thanks!

I didn't have any problem with my 2004 XJ8. However, I am the original owner and the dealer had one of their frames in the back and I added an aftermarket to the front. I would suggest measuring the hole diameter and hitting up a foreign car parts place.

My memory just kicked in. I also bought an aftermarket frame for the rear and used the anti-theft screws that came with it. I got it at Kragen which is now O'Reilly.

I found, through trial and error, a screw that fits from a hardware store. I kept grabbing a few running out and trying them on the holes lol.

New member and much to learn here.
So Adam, would you please share your knowledge about what size the bolt was? I didn't have as much luck as you finding one.
Thanks
