Default How to remove shifter J gate trim?

I"m surprised no one has been able to answer my other question, guess a sticky shifter is not too common.

How does one remove the shifter's trim on a 2005 X Type? Perhaps we will get lucky and find a mechanical reason for the issue of a binding shifter under the trim plate.

Thanks,

Very easy! Open the ashtray flap, then using fingertips under the front edge of the J Gate surround (Not the shifter - this is a Jaguar!), lift it about 1/2 inch. Ease fingers around the surround until it pops out of all four spring clips.

Total time 5 secs!

Thanks Astromorg, I appreciate it. Hope we get lucky and find something wedged in there.

Johnken: The thread below has step-by-step pictures of a dismantled J Gate. Astromorg's correct - it's easy. The hardest parts are: (1) taking care not to drop any screws down the J Gate opening, and (2) keeping track of the little black ball with the hole that slides over the shifter.
