On the 2004 XJ8 there is no transmission fluid level dipstick. I have had some dripping from the trans area. Is there a warning message for low trans fluid?
Thanks,
Tom

No.
You will want to do the following:
1) Find the source of the leak and rectify (common areas - pan, electrical sleeve or the highest probable area - the Trans cooling lines)
2) If the pan/filter/fluid has not been changed - or you don't know - time to get that done. Go to a Trans shop that knows the ZF 6 speedTrans - the refill procedure is detailed and very specific.
3) dependent on the size of the leak - is be cautious driving the car until the above is handled.
