I meant to post in this thread sooner, but it kept escaping me. I'm really, really sorry to hear about this. I can not tell you how glad we all are that you alright, and that your XJ kept you as safe as it did.

I hope that the lady that pulled out in front of you makes a speedy recovery. That has to be a hard thing for her family to deal with. It just goes to show you can never be too careful out there.

 

+1 You can never be too careful. I just drove past the scene of a terrible accident involving two cars and a bicyclist, with quite a few beer cans exploded all over the road...

 

As the owner of two Lexus', I have had absolutely no problems. Toyota has mastered the art of sound control, and the bottom of my IS is as clean and streamlined as the hood/roof/trunk. Components, such as Denso/Toyota alternators and starters, appear to last longer than American car parts. Even the air and oil filters are of much higher quality than common Autozone filters or Motorcraft filters.

On the IS, I recently changed a tire using a floor jack in front of the right rear wheel. It lifted both right wheels and the left rear, and putting jack stands under the car is actually dangerous. I've never experienced such a rigid frame/body--it's built like a tank.

After 24 years (and 4 cities) working as Dealer Manager/Sales for one of the Big 3 car manufacturers, I can say that my Lexus dealer is the best automobile dealership I've ever seen. Only very experienced, high potential dealers get Lexus franchises, and we're now seeing their sons take over these businesses. Despite tough competition, Customer Satisfaction has kept them tops in luxury car sales since the early '90's.

I am bored with the colors of Lexus, BMW, Acura and Mercedes automobiles. Jaguar colors and interior finishes are absolutely tops in the mass production luxury car world. I still don't know how many luxury cars can run 0-60 mph in 5-6 seconds and still be boring.

 

Lexus may be trouble free cars but are they safer than equivalent cars say MB S , BMW 7 , Audi 8 , Jaguar XJ ?
I dislike having prejudgements but it seems japanese cars or far east makes in general term seems not a safer in a case of accident . I don't know why may be manufacturers do use thinner metal parts or something liek that .
I saw a prius rear ended a Ford Crown but it looked as if prius had been suffered from a head on collision by a giant Ford F450 !
As for the Crown Victoria , not even a crack despite a plastic bumper cover

This is the first jag i have owned, the 2011 xjl, and of course with all the software problems, which have now been fixed, i had a bad taste initially but it is all good now. go for the newest one you can afford with the lowest mileage. i would purchase another one despite the original problems.

 

The Jag that saved your life won't be happy now. Enjoy the Lexy, but don't forget, what makes Jag different than other cars is that every Jag has a soul, unlike other cars.

I do not understand why the OP credited his Jag for saving his life, thanked the structural engineer for his "aluminum is better than steel" post, AND THEN went and got himself a Lexus LS...which does not do well in IIHS crash tests especially in the small overlap.

Moreover, it must be a totally boring car coming from a Jaguar.

Car & Driver, Motor Trend, and those other American car reviewers are well known for their German and Japanese bias.
