Which plug? There is a drain and a fill plug? Yes they are different and will not interchange.
Also be aware that Jaguar does everything by the last 6 digits of your VIN.
You did not post that so I am not sure which part number is needed yet? There are several different part numbers I can see.

Thanks for the VIN and unfortunately your car is past the early diff that had the separate drain and fill plugs.
Here is what your diff looks like from JPART.
No separate fill or drain plugs from what I can see?
Now item 13 is listed as a "Level Plug"? Which I think means it's the drain plug. However the diagram does not show where it goes.
Part #XR815977 but it's listed ONLY up to VIN H02908. Plus it's NLA and obsolete.
Which is odd as I see this fits a number of different applications too?
JaguarLandRover Classic has a diagram and you could contact them as a last ditch effort. Drain Plug
Hey we might have gotten lucky??
Take a look at Terry's Jags. Only about $16 too. Now they don't say it's in stock BUT they don't say it's not either. Well worth a call to check availability. Drain Plug
Can you get under the car and do some inspections? Might help.

"Level Plug" does not means that it is the drain plug, but just what it says, alevel plug to check whether the oil level is ok.It is situated at the height the oil level should be.
You can only drain the diff through the level plug by using a pump, or mybe a syringe with a hose attached.to it.
Thanks and that makes sense. Strange that the plug just floats in space too? No sign of where it threads in.
I wanted him to inspect the rear diff in cased it does have a drain plug.

Unfortunately, that is one of the reasons why I consider the Jaguar parts catalogue as not one of the best in the world, to put it mildly... floating parts that you cannot place are not uncommon.
Sure, inspecting the diff to be sure that there is no drain plug makes absolute sense. The diff on my car does not have one, but then it is an early one from September 2003.
Look for your style diff on ebay. Should be enough pictures to determine where the plug is. I can't remember. Can probably find a pipe plug at the hardmore store that will work. Right rear half way up the diff cover. https://www.ebay.com/itm/23596386193...3ABFBMnNXflcJl
