Default Questions on Buyer Protection

Hi guys!

I'm very excited at the prospect of replacing my totaled LS430 with a new (to me) 2007 or 2008 XJ8 or XJ6 (those seem to be few and far between here in south Florida...as in I have seen none! Did they still make them in 07 and 08?)

But I generally don't feel comfortable buying ANY used car without some kind of warranty. I don't mind paying the scratch for a top of the line extended warranty but am I dreaming that something will be available to add to my new purchase considering they have 40-50K miles on them and the age?

Is there a Jaguar factory offering?

Jaguar dealers normally offer pretty comprehensive warranties on used cars, but the cost is high. Other dealers who happen to sell Jaguars as well as other cars also offer insurance-backed warranties at lesser cost, but with lesser coverage. My philosophy is that a warranty of some sort in the first year of ownership is beneficial, but I would normally only cover the main mechanical components as this reduces the cost a lot. Of course you then have the risk of something not so important failing and having to pay for it yourself, but save money on the warranty price.

Manye, go to a Jaguar dealer and see what he has to offer in what Jaguar calls Select Edition Certified. The car will come with its purchase price a extend new car warranty to 6 years or 100,000 miles. Many say it's one of the best warranties in the business.

thanks for the info! I'll take a look. I'm actually between getting a "real car" and a fun quirky car I can use for a year and sell on. I've always wanted to drive a modded and rodded 50's car or a 65 Lincoln Continental. Things like that.

I'm in the media business so quirks sometimes are just good marketing. But so is an 08 XJ8 Vanden Plas.. so... decisions decisions.

Either way, one has to do all the homework!
