Default Rear seat A/C control hanging by a thread

Hi, all. In the back seat of my 04 XJR, the rear seat climate control unit has broken in the sense that the plastic that holds the screws in has broken (I suspect my kids kicked it while roughhousing or something).

The local mechanic says it's $700 to fix - need new unit, new bezel and labor. I don't want to spend $700 on this. We don't use this unit at all, so I just need it to look ok.

Does anyone have any creative ways to hold this unit in place? Crazy blue? Putty?

Thanks in advance.

I've had that rear A/C module/interface out of the center console several times, the top 1/2 is the A/C, the lower half is the seat heaters and cigar/acc outlet. They come apart. The A/C piece is held in place by three screws, one top, one left, one right...I bet you could form an epoxy 'flap' where the piece broke off, wait for it to dry, then drill through it with a very small bit...instant connector! just be sure not to torque it too much.

There's a guy parting out an XJ8 in the classifieds...I saw a pic and he has a rear A/C unit...might want to try that first?

Thanks for the reply. Looks like mine is different that it's just vents and seat heating/etc. No A/C controls. I looked into the car being parted - that unit looks different.

I do like the idea of finding a used one.

The car is in the shop right now, so I can't go look at it. But I believe the lower control unit actually attaches via screws to the upper unit. So if the plastic screw housings are broken off, I may need to find both the vent housing unit and the seat heater/lighter unit.

I mistook your post to read you had the rear A/C controls, not just the vents. Sorry about that. the lower 1/2 appears identical to mine (with the outlets and seat heaters), and if so, it essentially just 'hooks' into the top vents, and gets two screws on the bottom, and one on each side. That part should be EASY to find in the salvage yards and/or ebay.
