Starting a couple of days ago, whenever I press a button my my 1998 xj8 remote, the car makes a loud beep, and the buttons don't do anything. What should I do?

 

Jag_genious also said that something was opened, and mentioned checking the ignition barrel flap.After checking the igintion switch, I noticed that there was no flap. I read about putting a couple of drops of oil on the key and wiggling for a while.Lo and behold, a flap popped out. I had the driver's side door open, and when the flap popped out, the chime stopped. I got out and pushed the lock on the remote, and it worked !!! Thanks so much. This was driving me crazy.
