Default Remote only works on boot

05 XJ8L pressing trunk button on remote works, but not the door lock or unlock. Are there 2 different receivers? I've opened up the remote and it all seems clean and nice. Pressing the door buttons doesn't result in any sounds, clicking, flashing, nothing. 2nd remote bought from eBay seller was faulty (dealer sez), still waiting for replacement from Ebay seller, so I only have the one remote to work with.

Are you able to lock and unlock doors with the key ie manually?

Suggest you replace battery in the remote as first step.

Yes, doors lock and unlock appropriately with key. Clockwise turn locks all doors, Anti-clockwise once unlocks driver's door, twice unlocks all doors.

Battery was tested as good, replaced with new, no change.

OK You may need to reprogram your remote info here:

Does the fourth button (lower left as you hold it) bring the headlamps on at night ? (Second push should turn them off again). If it does then it's not a programming problem, it's hardware in the fob.

My money would be on the micro switches for lock and unlock buttons going u/s, or a problem with pcb they're on. The trunk and headlamp buttons (esp the latter) generally get considerably less use and outlast the top two.

There is a guy on Ebay, here in the UK who repairs fobs with duff microswitches for quite reasonable money. There must be a similar in the US/Can, surely.
