Default Removing battery 2006 XJ Sovereign X350 2.8 Diesel

Sorry for this rather basic question, I keep having to jump start the battery as the car is being left for a long time.

I was just wondering if I pulled the battery from the car itself to recharge it (as I no longer have the possibility of jump starting at the moment), would I have to go through the whole malarkey of radio reset codes etc etc.?

I know this is something I am wary of on my volvo as everything gets reset and needs a code afterwards.

Yes you would.

Far better to get yourself a battery tender if you intend to leave the car standing for any length of time.

I'm always concerned about charging a battery while it's connected to a vehicle.

Are the codes universal or specific to my car?

Radio codes are specific to the car.

No need to be concerned about the battery charging if you use the smart chargers.

I use the CTEK MSX 7.0 as do others on this forum. Best money I have spent. There are many threads on this forum with regard to battery tenders, worth a quick look if you have the time.

Not sure if the car has coils or whatever as I'm more in tune with older technologies, points etc.

I know it's a no no to charge a vehicle while the battery is connected as you can fry a coil.

The answer to your first line is in your signature, diesel.

Regarding the battery, you could charge it the old fashioned way, in which case you will have to re-input the radio code and reset all memory functions each time you do it, or, you can do a search on this forum and other websites to enable you reach an informed decision on what would be best for you.

Entirely your choice.

..Slaps one self on the head hard. Diesel doesn't have spark plugs and coils. In defense I know nothing on diesels.

So can I use a regular charger to charge the car battery in situ safely without having to disconnect the car from the battery? Lets say if I have a flat battery for example?

Had a little giggle at that one, sorry.

With the amount of sensitive electronics in these cars, I would not use a regular charger.

Some members have their smart chargers permanently fitted to their cars with no problems whatsoever.

Do a google search on CTEK battery tenders and have a read, you will be enlightened.
