Replacing the engine thermostat on a V6 Diesel X350.
Good afternoon.
I would like to replace the engine thermostat on an XJ X350 V6 Diesel (2006). Could anyone tell me if the thermostat itself can be changed, or do you have to change the thermostatic and it's housing? I have found a thermostat for about £36 but the housing and thermostat is about £100. The main dealer says that the housing has to be changed. Also, is this a relatively straightforward job to do?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

I believe you can change just the t stat but it' a better idea to change the whole thing because:
The thermostat comes in a number of bits and it's not obvious how they go together.
The housing is plastic and deteriorates.
A straightforward job AFIK.

Looking at the description in the technical description document that came out for the Tdvi it seems the housing has three hoses connected to it and two of them are of very similar size ... so it's important to make note of 'what goes where' before you take the old one off.
