Default SDD connecting wire?

I'm building my laptop for JLR SDD, I was going to use a bluetooth OBD2 adapter, but apparently this wants a USB connector. Any recomendation on ones that have worked? I
see this one see this one
, looks like it should work, but I'm saying that out of ignorance.

JLR requires a Mongoose connector to connect to the ODB port.

Clones have failed which is "ok" so long as you are just doing diagnoses. If doing programming that failure could brick the ECU.

Hi,

get a DrewTech MONGOOSE Clone (MANGOOSE) , I've been working with it for years ( SDD V130.X) and it doesn't cause any problems even if you are coding options or settings.

cheap mongoose

VCM is better and can go back and forth from SDD to IDS but if you’re on a budget you work with what you have

if you’re doing any flashing rig up a battery maintainer, there’s a good tutorial on bimmerboost

I've picked up a couple of NOCO battery maintainers, The genuine Mongoose is out, based on simple economics, the best one I've seen goes for more than I have in some of my cars. is VCM a brand or type?

V 130 or 131 is best for a 2005 Jaguar XJR. Lots of info in this forum.

I use V 159 on my 2013 Range Rover Sport.

I think the VCM is even more expensive than the Mongoose cable.

There are several documented failures of clones in this forum. My original clone failed and I was lucky to pick up a genuine Pro Mongoose on sale.

it’s not if you’re patient and wait, under 300 bucks usually. SDD is in general a garbage piece of software. having a VCM with IDS 118 makes life easier

Rotunda VCM 1 AKA teradyne GNA600

if you only want SDD and need a legit cable you dont need to search for a genuine mongoose, buy a da-dongle. still highly recommend the vcm instead

I generally use an i930 for general diagnostics. I have used my v130+ JLR SDD for reflashing my TCM as well as setting the ride height on my sold 2005 XJR. Sure its not intuitive however it works.

I used V159 dealing with an EPB failure on my 2013 RR. V130 gave a generic failure message whereas V159 was way more specific as one would expect.

Keep looking for a genuine Mongoose, they are out there.
Found Drew still had a new one, left to sell me, back in March.
Am now waiting for my British Diagnostics, V130 software on a thumb drive to arrive.
That i will take to the guy putting things together for me, when it arrives.
