Default Sirius Missing in 2008 XJ8L

I just purchased a 2008 XJ8L and have noticed that I don't appear to have the sirius module. When I scroll from FM to AM, SAT does not come up and I don't have the options button on the screen that other posters seem to have. I have another vehicle that I am selling and I purchased the lifelong Sirius subscription that can be transferred to another vehicle (hopefully the Jag) for a nominal cost. My question is if I am missing the module behind the rear seat, can I simply purchase it and plug it in and my head unit will recognize it? or Should I go the other route of having a separate Sirius unit installed in the ashtray. Is the sound quality better if I go the install the OEM module route? Thanks for the help

On the nav unit it should say BAND, whereas the old head unit would say AM/FM.

There is a great DAB/DAB+ retrofit thread on the forum for your review. Great information there if you need to retrofit.

I am in process of a Sirius to IBOC swap which also is in process with photos on the forum too.

If I recall, the car should have from factory a most-to-d2b gateway, a Sirius module, antenna and (possibly) head unit (with BAND Button) and software update.

Thanks-
Mag

That's what sucked about the 2006 version. It was sort of an FM modulator type. Never sounded good to me. Just standard FM quality without talking and adds, some times.

First off you should check if SIRIUS was ever fitted as an original feature: you can do this by going to the Ford Etis site, clicking on 'Vehicle', entering the car's full VIN and then clicking to reveal the 'Minor Features' list.

It doesn't follow that if the head unit has a button marked 'BAND' that the car must have had SIRIUS fitted (or IBOC, or DAB); it just means the head is compatible. Mine has 'BAND' on the band button but DAB (UK market) wasn't fitted (at the time it was only an option, which the first owner obviously didn't want).

You should be able to retrofit Jaguar's SIRIUS but it'll be hideously expensive because it requires two modules (the Sirius module itself and an interface module called a gateway) and they are typically $500+ each !

EDIT According to the SNG Barratt site the satellite receiver is no longer available.

Agreed. I had the dealer fitted FM modulator 'ashtray' version in my original 05xj8l car.

Default Sirius

Thanks for the responses guys. My head unit does say band, however no sirius. When I look up my vin on the Ford Etis site it doesn't mention it either. I think i am going to go the route of ashtray install. Anyone have a recommendation on what sirius unit? Thanks

Just to complete the check, on the Etis listing for mine which doesn't have DAB, just FM and AM, it says:

'Analogue Audio Broadcast'
