Can you isolate the noise coming from one wheel or another? If so you may be able to spot an issue there. Not likely all wheel will have the same problem. I would check to see that all calipers operate freely and that the caliper pins do not have side play and operated freely in and out.

OK! So, I finally found these on Amazon. I'm awaiting their arrival and dying to see if this will fix my noise problem.

I have used both of the CRC products advertised with these brake pads. The CRC disc brake quiet would be in place of the pads and the brake lube would be used to lubricate all moving parts, pins, slides, etc

UPDATE: I finally got around to installing those shims. It was nice and quiet for about 30 mins...now it seems to be even louder than before. I am stumped and tired of having to always drive with my windows shut.

The correct Jag pads often come with an installed shim and you use anti seize grease and never silicone.


Another thought. Your car has Brembos? Check that one of the pistons is not frozen.
I've learned that, according to VIN or model year, not all vehicles were equipped with the anti rattle springs.

I took my car to the mechanic. He reported a combination of problems. One, the Wagner thermo-quiet pads were creating way too much dust and glazing the rotors. To prove the point, we drove the car in the rain, with the rotors wet, and the noise was gone. Second the rotors were warped, front and back. The mechanic swears by genuine Jaguar parts or better than oem replacements. I haven't replaced the pads and rotors yet. I'll report back when I replace with higher quality parts. I'll also let you know the parts I use.

Now that the holidays are over and everything is back to normal, I'm ready to get back at this problem. It's driving me NUTZ! Here's a recap:

-a year after pads were replaced and rotors refinished, I start getting the squeal.
-I try CRC red goop on back of pads, sanding the pads and rotors...nothing
-I completely replace pads and rotors...quiet for a few days, then squeal returns with a vengeance
-I clean, lube, grease everything in the brake system...nothing
-I install rubberized shims on the back of the pads...nothing

Needless to say, I'm completely stumped. Any and all ideas are welcome.

When you replaced the rotors and pads, what brand did you use? My mechanic swears that this problem is caused by the non-OEM rotors and pads I installed (centric rotors front, Bosch rotors back, and Wagner thermo quiet pads all around). I haven't replaced mine again, but will likely be trying OEM genuine Jaguar parts.

Sounds to me like you have touched all bases save 1. The calipers.


If you have a stuck or lazy brake piston, most particularly but not limited to Brembos, could it not produce these symptoms ?


BTW if you have Brembos and you have not properly bled the circuit such that air is still in the outside caliper chambers, well you got trouble.

Have you confirmed that the calipers are freely moving in and out? That would include all areas that slide?

I have the standard brake package, not the Brembos. Anybody have a good test to check if the calipers are moving freely?

It's coming from both sides, definitely from the front. I can't tell if the back wheels are doing it also because the fronts are so loud.

I just remembered something...one of the last times I was messing with this issue, I pressed the brake pedal while the caliper was off its mount, but still attached to the fluid lines. I noticed that the pistons had not extended evenly, meaning one was fully extended and the other about half way. I figured it had done that because there was nothing to push against, but now I'm wondering if that means that piston had gone bad. Any thoughts?

yep, that's a stuck piston and can cause the vibration.

So both pistons should definitely extended out the same distance? Is there a way to fix this issue, or do I just have to replace the whole caliper?

Forgive my ignorance, I'm afraid I've never messed with brake systems until this problem reared its ugly head, so I'm still learning.

Update: i installed a used pair of calipers and guess what? No change whatsoever. Still squealing like a stuck pig. So I unbolted them again, and downed the pedal. On both calipers, one piston extends further than the other, just the same as my original pair (see picture). Is that a lazy piston? If so, I got another defective pair. Any insight would be most appreciated before I start a return claim.

I would consider used calipers to be "rebuildable cores".

No one is going to seel a used calipier as "guaranteed working".

I would try metallic or semi metallic brakes not high performance or ceramic. Some pad come as kits with pads shims and sometimes hardware.
Ifor that does not work I still believe there may be an issue with one or more calipers but would start with the pads

I'm not suggesting the the front bearings are the source of the squeal. But, how long has it been since the front wheel bearings were checked?
