Default Staggered Winter Tyres?

Any advice welcome on this. I've purchased some 19" wheels to put winter tyres on for a trip later this year, but im wondering if there is any benefit in going narrower at the front?

Standard tyre size is 255 40 19, a proposed tyre size of 235 45 19 is only just over 1% different.

The reason I ask, is that traditionally I thought it better to have a narrower tyre for winter driving, but with the winter tyres that are available now, I wonder if there is any benefit in running these narrower tyres at the front? or is the snow shedding capability so good that its better to have more rubber on the road?

Cheers, Beavis.

I generally go with narrower front and back so I'm compacting less snow and have less resistance to forward movement. My winter car is a Lincoln LS, summer tires are 235 50 17, my snows are 215 60 16.
