I was going to replace the coolant tank on my 2004 XJR and decided while I was doing it I would replace the s/c belt and the main belt. I called the dealer for a s/c belt, since I couldn't find it listed at the parts store. I called the dealer and inquired about it. The parts guy tells me I need an update kit that goes with it. This is the belt, idler pulley, bracket and tensioner. Total cost for the parts associated with this is $347.88 This is now a double sided grooved bet designed to eliminate slip and squeaks.
Has anyone run into this? If so, is this something that can be done by someone who is fairly skilled at these things? lol
I also talked with the service rep about a TSB or something in this fix. He did find one and read it to me. Had to do with squeaking belt on cold start up, which is exactly my problem.
