Thottle Body "Do Not Clean" and PCV
I have a 2004 XJR and recently had to bebuild the SC snout. When I removed the air intake plumbing, there was a significant amount of oil throughout. It is apparenly from the PCV. I obviously wanted to clean as much as possible before reassembly. One thing that puzzled me however were two very significant warnings in the JTIS that said "do not clean thhrottle body" It indicated that it has a special coating. Well... The only special coating that I could see was the black oil from the PCV all over. I did a loose towel wipe and re assembled becuase I was freaked out by the warnings.
1. Any idea what this "special coating" is?
2. How much oil should I see in the intake plumbing?
3. How can you tell if the PCV is bad?
BTW doesn't $ 65.00 for a PCV sound rather steep?

I am not sure about any coatings but my mechanic said to clean it with a mild no alkeline cleaner. That TB should be clean as a whissle. My 2003 Jag is haveing TB issues. When I removed mine it was like brand new. You have another issue, you shouldnt have any oil near that TB and it will eventually shut down because of the oil. Clean it well and find out why you have oil issues. That sounds more of a problem than just the PCV. I would go online and see if you can find a PCV cheaper but it is a Jag and those parts dont come cheap. The cars arent when new but give them a year and you can buy them for almost nothing. The car wont cost you much but the repairs will.
