Trans flush & update
As requested I am posting my results from the fluid only drain & change on my 05 XJ8 w/ 85,000 mile! AllJag in Longwood, Fl. did the following:
1. Drained overnite all old fluid
2. Ran IDS for refill procedure and reset transmission adaption values
3. Refilled as necessary with Mercon ATF ,which they use successfully
The slow downshift is gone, no last minute dropdown at stops, cleaner shifts and 5th to 6th chatter is gone (that one had us all wondering)!!
The car has 85K and was clean with no leaks under car so I took the chance of fluid only change to see what improvement might occur. If we have the car @ 100K mile range I will either do it again or do the service kit at that time.
Again, I felt since the lifetime product failed to make lifetime why not plan reasonable servicing with another product?
AllJag can be contacted at 407-830-5245, ask for William and refer to this service done for Gene's car. You will find them easy to talk to and they are the only reason I keep Jaguars personally!

Transmission Fluid Change/ Rear end Howl
I'm starting to notice a slight hard downshift on my 2000 XJR. It just turned over 100K. I want to do a fluid change. I'm hearing different types of fluid.
Can anyone recommend the correct one?
Also, I'm starting to hear a howl in the rearend. It seems like it's getting louder every time I drive it. It's becoming very annoying. Any thoughts?

The correct ATF is the Jaguar specified ATF. Alternatives are available but should not be posted in this thread because it is posted in the wrong model year section. Future readers may rely on that information to their detriment.

Danadane,
A number of us (hard to say how many) are using Mobil1 ATF. Clearly it does not meet the spec put up buy the OEM and, as Plum should have said, you use it at your own risk.
I have had it in my 05 XJR for over a year and 10,000 + miles. It cleared up my xmission problems, restored the shift characteristics to new and has given satisfactory service since. There have been no adverse reports from those using it nor from the indie Jag shops installing it.
Hoo boy. Now starts the bar fight.
