I took delivery of a lovely 8000 mile 2008 XJ 2.7TD today. Love it!!

A question please ........

Even after a short run there is a lot of quite loud "clinking and tinging" of cooling metal from the underside of the car. There's also quite a strong 'burning' smell similar to that you get after a new exhaust has been fitted.

It's just a little worrying. Is it possible something new has been fitted then that would explain it? I am not at all technically minded!

There are two newish looking silver 'nobbly' oblong panels on the underside. One each side. I have no idea what they are but the noise/smell could possibly be coming from them.

Any ideas?

I've discovered from another forum that it's the DPF regenerating. Not something I've ever been familiar with before but totally normal.

Quite a relief!
