I believe the voice modules are programmed based on the options a car has. So, when the thing is new, you can go to 'configure new module' and tell it the car has phone/nav/etc. and it gets the commands for them. When it goes in a different car, it doesn't auto detect the options and needs to be told which ones the new car has. As Cambo has said, a VCM with IDS should do the job. Once my wife's STR is all put back together (currently finishing up a complete respray) I'll have to give reprogramming a try.

Thanks for this information. The voice module I have on order is new old stock and never installed in a car. Will I automatically see a confirmation screen? If not, how do I get to the configuration settings?

There won't be any kind of response from the car when you plug it in. It will just work and have the commands it was programmed with. Setting up the module is done with IDS and a VCM. You can't do any of that stuff through the cars screen.
