Default Why Should I NOT buy an XJ

Ok, after a couple years of probing around XJ's, I may be ready to pull the trigger now that I see the folly of buying the Accord Hybrid.

Any reason not to buy one? Looking at low mile 04-06's even found an XJr but a day late as it sold. Would you buy one again?

I've been driving Jags for about 13 years now. My experience is with older models than what you guys are discussing, but I'm on my third one. I have no plans to be *without* a Jaguar in the future.

If nothing else, consider this: as used cars go, you'll never find more car for less money.

Cheers

So true about the values-same $$ as a G35 of the same year. Have my eye on an 04 on eboy, 26k, red, near mint according to the prosaic hyperbole the seller writes about it. he did the throt body & new Contis. wants almost 17k for it and red's not my 1st choice. Non nav, opinions? Jusr shut up & but it?

non-navi and red ? Id pass on it w/o the navi.

The XJ just looks dull with the regular radio IMO.

Yeah and more complex looking sans nav. He's had 10 offers and no sale yet-holding out for every penny. Seems like it;s worth it though.

maybe be an old timer that thinks the low mileage should yield him $45k.

A co-worker of mine came in with his fathers s500, told me someone offered his father $20k for it. I said "wow, thats great", then he continues to tell me his father passed because he thinks the cars worth $40k because it online has 35k miles.

I forget the year but its the debut model of the previous gen s-class.

I enjoy my 06 VDP, it is truly a beautiful car but try to buy with warranty and/or have a few bucks set aside for maintenance.

I figured on maintenance, and I swore off all British products whenI was 15 with my Rcman MX bike, c'est la vie.

And this one is owned by a guy who bought it off lease from somone who lived 5 smiles away from me on L.I. Low miles usually add $1000 at the big auctions, not 3-4k as he's trying for.

Yeah, I second everyone else's opinions on passing for 17k with it not being "hard loaded". Low miles make it tempting though and if it has a few other options to make up for it such as heated seats, xenons, etc, I might be tempted.

I picked up my 04 XJ8 for $12k with nav, xenons, htd seats and steering wheel, cd changer, rear htd seats, 18" dynamics, alpine audio, etc, etc. It had 85k when I bought it but no accident damage or paintwork and knowing the previous owner for 11 years was a big plus. Black/black really makes it stand out and regardless how hard you try, you will never convince anyone that you only gave $12,000 for such a car.

LI now for a few more weeks and then FL for good.

And this was a base car w/18 chromes & alpine. I was highest offer on it but about 1200 under asking.

Jeffn,
Come on down. We need more nice Jags in FL. Particularly in central FL. Now if we can only get SteveTech to move his business from where ever he's at to FL

Personally I'd go for an 06+ car, frankly for what you get for the money these things are a steal. I just picked up an 07 GS350 AWD the other day (Nope, NOT selling the Jag!) and while it's a nice car, it's really amazing how the Jaguar's personality makes it something really special.

BTW, in Orlando take the car to All Jaguar in Longwood for service.

I have to disagree on the navigation. Will never have a factory one again after the issues with the one in my 01 XKR. After a few years they get out of date and upgrading them from the dealer, if available at all is totally cost prohibitive. The portable units only for me! I really like pre-programming it inside my home at any time, then taking it to my car when I am ready and press go. Upgrades? Just plug it into your computer. Portable too old? A brand new one is less than an upgrade to the OEM one. OEM is too much to begin with and too much to upkeep!!

Well, after trying to use my factory nav unit today and having to pull the Garmin out of the glovebox I must concur that it is a bit annoying to try and use in a pinch, lol.

The one in my 04 XJ works pretty well, I hardly use it but on a trip to Niagara Falls NY I kept coming off the interstates to the rest stop ( not even near the highway I dont know why the signs are on the highway to begin with ) it kept finding the calculations and roads. I do admit on a few areas it did not have the info, but the arrows were pointing to the route so getting lost still was not going to happen.

Again, personally I would not buy an XJ without the NAVI.

Question guys, I work at a Honda dealer, and a lady traded in an 05 XJR black, with Nav. 65k on it, and we have about $19k in the car. It needs rear brakes, tires, and probably some sort of scheduled maint.

Is it worth it to buy it? What is the maint. schedule on these things???
