Default Window trims

Well, like most I guess, I have the discolouration, water spots etc on my window trim on the XJ......takes away a little from the overall appearance, so after reading Mr Whites post, I decided to tackle it......

Ok had a quick 10 min blast on the window trims on my Audi A6
It was only a quick going over to see what if any difference was made, the pics really don't do it justice, made quite a bit of difference.

See before and after below

Now give the Jag a little treatment and see how that goes

Here's what happened on the Jag, definitely nothing major but lessened the water spotting and brightened it up somewhat for sure....

Good job! Could you please give me some details about how you did it? Thanks!

Hi there, I used the kit as found in this thread here, certainly helped some.

Perhaps not like night and day, but an improvement for sure.

Best

Hey Jim,

I'm glad it worked for you. The pic you posted of the rear window trim looks way better after.

Nice improvement Jim!

I tried the same on my XK but no luck. My wife thinks it improved but honestly, spending 30 minutes to cover two inches is too much for me.

I've read that this is common on high end cars (MB, Audi, BMW) and worse on vehicles exposed to heavy salt air. As mine is a Florida car...

I did a spot test of light sand 600 grit > 800 grit > 1500 grit and then clear coat. I did a sloppy job (spray can orange peel effect) as this is just a test, I'm ok with that for now. The clear coat eliminates the cloudiness.

I'm letting it sit awhile and every few days doing a fingernail scratch test. So far so good, the clear coat is holding it's bond. Some time mid summer if the clear coat holds, I'll use a spray gun vs the spray can and clear coat the rest of the trim.

Clear coat should last a good couple of years. I hand wash the car so I know the chemicals I use are gentle enough.
