Default X350 Auxilliary Coolant Pump

I have looked on this web site before, and found some interesting comments on this topic, but i can't find them any more!!This is a very complex site and i am not sufficiently competent to cope with it. So.....I have problems with leakage from this pump and wish to take it off to see if Rand R is possible. First I can't see how to get at it.Clearly it is fitted to the under side of the coolant resevoir located at the front of the engine bay in a very accessible spot!. However, after removing the one bolt holding it down , the next step is not clear! I would be grateful for some help to show to to get at it!

There is an electrical connector to squeeze & unplug, & a couple hoses to disconnect, after draining your coolant.

Not that big of an undertaking, the coolant draining, with its refill, is the worst of it.

Hi Wingrider, Yes you have to drain some coolant and remove the one bolt on the side. But even then I cannot lift the assembly as its held down in some way.Its not feasible to unplug the electric plug yet as its beneath there somewhere!!!

I have had mine out twice one to fix the motor bushes as it wasn't running and last time to replace it as it was leaking. There is just one bolt through the mount, an electrical connector on the bottom and the 2 hoses and it should lift out.

I would replace it if I were you. I bought the following one from amazon Bosch 0392020034. It is not exactly the same as the outlets a little bigger than original. What I did was pull the rubber mount off the old one and put on the new one and then swap the top outlet from old to new and it works a treat. Plus at about £55 for the new pump it is about £100 cheaper than the Jag part.

When i did mine, i just followed the instructions, disconnecting the hoses, overflow tank etc.

Not that hard of a job, it went right along, after removing the necessary parts.

Look around to see if you missed something, could just be stuck on, give it a tug to see if it comes loose..

SC diagram 14: SC coolant pump 9: Aux coolant pump

SC pic 5: Aux coolant pump SC coolant pump to the front, not visible

NA diagram 11: Aux coolant pump

NA pic Aux coolant pump to the right, same as in SC pic
I understand there is an auxiliary coolant flow pump which makes the heater work sooner, and this is on both SC and NA cars. The SC cars also have a supercharger coolant pump. This is mounted to the right of the radiator pack and is accessed by removing the front bumper. The auxiliary coolant pump is behind the radiator pack, again on the right side, and is probably best accessed from below the car. In the pictures, #5 is the aux coolant pump on the SC and is not called out on the NA, but is in the same location. In the diagrams, #11 is the aux coolant pump for the NA. #14 is the supercharger coolant pump on the SC diagram.
Hope this helps.
