Default XJ 2.7TDVI Restricted performance

Hi all,

I have a 2009 XJ Sovereign 2.7TDVI that when started every morning displays the "restricted performance" message. Icarsoft scanner and my own mechanic can find no codes associated, and the car is driving fine with no restriction in performance whatsoever.

If I drive and warm the car up say for 15 minutes, start it again and plug in, it will erase and turn off the message and orange light, and this stays off until the next morning when i get into the car and start it again from cold.

I am totally baffled.

Welcome to the forums Arsenal01,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X350 forum for advice from members with the same model.

The RP message displays in response to a specified set of codes. iCarsoft is useful, certainly as a brute force way of clearing codes but Jaguar SDD diagnostics may be more informative on the actual cause. However, the scenario you describe suggests it is engine temperature related and could therefore be a faulty temperature sensor.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.
