Post 1995 XJ6 XJ300 6 Cyl with 6 Coils

Problems.

I have an interment starting problem, i had changed battery and had problems, finally thru the forum discovered i had a bad ground.
Added ground to engine. thought I solved problem starting car for a week dailly with no problem then it did it again and left me stranded.

I have a stalling problem when i step on gas, bogs stalls.

I have a transmission indicator on dash with X thru it, and transmission computer under neath pasasenger side gives a beeping sound every so often when driving.

I just cleaned throttle body per advice on forum.

I want to drive my Jaguar.

where do i start, I also bought new fuel filter I plan on installing. I just replaced six coils, brand new.

any advice greatly appreciated.

Car cranks right now, but no start.

OK.

Based on what I read into the scibes above, I reckon you have a CAS (crank angle sensor) going bad, timing cover front at about 11 o'clock (as looking at the front of the engine).

They do this. Some go legs up, some go intermittant, some go forever, but 100k miles seems to be a pattern.

This supplies a signal for the engine and transmission on the 4ltr.

It may be something else, but this is where I would start, then slowly, systematically progress from there.

frank, read your other post, needed a drink, now I'm back..

The cam angle sensor is the "whizzy" thing on the side of the engine where a distributor once lived.

They are extremely reliable, but some have reported failures, not many.

The biggest issue with them is they are removed for whatever, and refitted with the "timing" incorrect. the Nippon Denso engine management is smart enough to work out the injection sequence "eventually", but some serious cranking is required.

Maybe check the timing of this before spending anymore money on it. The procedure is in the archives. If you cant locate it, ask I will type it again, or someone smarter than me will link it for you.

I am still thinking CAS, and/or low battery now.
