1995 XJR starter motor
Could any one help me .I need to know whether the starter motor on an xj40 would fit on the 1995 xjr .SC motor .I do not have an original to compare with an xj 40 starter.
Are the Bendix the same ration . I have a feeling that the original is more powerful . I cannot get any information from my local Bosch Distributor.

Hi Peter,
Just to give you a more detailed answer, the starter in the late XJ40s (U.S. '93-'94) is the same part as in the normally-aspirated X300s, part number DBC2937E
The starter in the supercharged X300s is DBC6923E
The starter in earlier XJ40s, up to VIN 667828, is different from the X300 starter, the last supersession being DBC1939N
I do not know the difference between these part numbers except that the one for the early XJ40s required a thin mounting spacer. Other differences may have had to do with a change of supplier, a change in electrical connector, a change in power, etc. The drive/flex plate part numbers are the same for late XJ40s and both N/A and S/C X300s, so I would assume the gears on all these starters are similar.
Hopefully one of our members can give you a more definitive answer as to whether an XJ40 starter will work in a supercharged X300.
You can easily search these part numbers at Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts.
Cheers,
Don

i fitted the XJ40 starter and it works. My problem seem to be earth related. I have fitted the Xjr super charged x306 motor to a series 1 XJ6 and had to move the battery to the
trunk .For some reason , earthing the battery in the trunk was not sufficient so I ran an earth cable direct to the engine. .I did have the normal motor to body earth strap connected as well.
