1996 Jaguar Vanden Plas
Okay heres the thing I have a big problem with my Jag. I bought the car in May and it had some issues. like for instance I would press the gas and it it wouldnt allow me to go over 40 mph. I fixed that because the brakes in the bake had a messed up caliper. I had to unplug the traction control module in order to gain speed. Then my locks went haywire I fixed that. now on to my BIG issue. I went to a gas station and the gas I put in my car was 87. Without prior knowledge ALL the tanks had 87! I got my money back and in the process of suing the gas station. After I put the gas in my car it started for about a couple of seconds then died! The trans and eng light came on and the car hasn't started ever since. It cranks but won't turn over. I changed the plugs and drained the gas with no luck. Can someone please help!?!?!?
I can't see where 87 octane fuel would prevent the engine from starting. Contaminated fuel would be a different matter, of course.
Get an inexpensive code reader and pull the diagnostic codes out of the system and go from there.
When you're cranking the engine does the tachomter move at all ? If not the crank sensor is probably faulty....a fairly common problem. Easy to replace.

Thanks Doug for the response!! It was helpful in solving my dilemma. I crank the car and the tach does move. I'm going to try to have someone else crank it to hear for the fuel pump. What can contaminated gasoline do to my car? Also I went to OBDCOM and ordered the scanner for my car. What else can I check for because the car ran fine before I put this damn gas in the tank.
