Default 1996 xj6 Will Not Turn Over and Start

This has happened to me two other times both when it was over 90F degrees outside. I will decide that it does not want to turn over. The lights come on, the belt turns the fan for a little while and then there is a gurgle noise that comes from somewhere around the fuel rail. Am I going to need a new fuel pump?

I've done so much to this car already and have transmission issues as it is and now can't even move it around in the driveway. Any help is greatly appreciated.

AJ-
Are you sure we are talking about your XJ6? There is no belt turning the fan on this car, there are two, and they are electric. So, MAYBE you have a bad battery. Get the parts store to check it.

Yes my mistake. I was incorrect about the belt situation. But the fan is turning for awhile.

I just took a better look at the battery and I have some moisture on it near the connections. This is a bad sign I suppose.

If it doesn't even attempt to turn over, I'd suspect the inhibitor switch that checks it's in park. Give the gear lever a wiggle for a start!

Should be fairly obvious from the fan/lights, if the battery is goosed... does the fan turn at a healthy speed?

As said already and then the following.

The "P" light next to the gearlever, MUST be lit up bright red, or the starter is prevented from doing anything. Move the lever to "N", and see if anything changes.

Secondly have the door open, attempt the start position, does the interior light "dim", or simply go "out". "Out" is a dud/dead battery or connections to it. "Dim" is a low charged/dying battery, or corroded terminals.

The moisture around the terminals is not a good sign, as it indicates a "sweating" battery, and that usually spells trouble.

Ihave read a few times about the red lamp near the gear lever. I've even seen photographs. Now I have a'96 Jaguar Sovereign long wheel base. There is no red lamp to be seen! Comments please.

It's not a red lamp as such, the P R N D should glow red when selected.
