1997 Jaugar xj6 Vandean Plas Charging problem
It all started one night when all my warning lights turned on one by one. Then, all of a sudden, the car shut off and wouldnt turn on until it was jumped started. We have put in a new battery and replaced the alternator after getting it checked 3 times (they said it was in great condition) with a remanufactured one (which still didnt work). We have replaced the suppression module as well. The car is running straight from the battery, leaving the alternator out of the equation. The voltage is down to 9 on the dashboard and the battery is at 10.9 when the engine is running, same with the alternator. We have checked all the wires. Could there be a computer controlling the alternator. Also, does the alternator bench test test the internal regulator of an alternator?? Please help

Start by doing a search of threads for words like charging, battery, etc. There are plenty of detailed posts here on troubleshooting charging problems.
I'd like to help but I have a 98 XJ8 and the classic problems there may not apply to your car.
Check the engine grounding strap by hooking a meter (with the engine running) to the engine block and the shock mounting bolts or similar good frame ground. It should not read more than 0.1 or maybe 0.3 volts. Anymore than that and you have a bad grounding strap. What happens there is the alternator puts out 14 volts. but if 3 are lost in the bad connection, your battery only sees 11 volts.
Start there and see where it goes.
