relays relays relays !!!!

I can almost guarantee that's a relay problem. There are two relays in the front of the engine bay that can affect the operation of the wiper. I'll dig up my diagram and see if I can't tell you exactly which one.

here we go. a few years back I had an issue where my wipers went crazy. I'd move the switch into each and every position and it wouldn't to anything, and then sometimes when it would work, it would only work on the slow constant speed, and when it did that, you couldn't make it stop, it would just quit when it felt like it. ridiculous intermittent operation.

though in your case, there's not even intermittent function. sounds to me like whatever relay is responsible is thoroughly toasted.

& I had to print and scan pages out of my shop manual, but this should be what you need.

Just to revive this thread
I have had wiper and turn signal blackouts as of late and
found that if I retract the wheel toward the dash both re-engage
does any one have any thoughts ?

got to be a loose plug under there. take the bottom panel off of the steering column and see what you can see under there. most likely something is binding up.

Yea mine doesn't work sometimes until the car completely warms up. It doesn't even budge.

try switching the relays with others that you know are good and see if that doesn't cure the symptom. then you'll know you just need relays

Default 97 XJ6 related issues?

My windshield wipers also just stopped working - the day after the steering wheel stopped "telescoping". It still tilts, but won't "reach". I'm told that could be the reach motor cable. Could these two issues (wipers & steering column) be related?

it is very possible, all the wiring under there is closely related and tied in together. there's even a wiper/window/mirror ECU under the dash if you've ever been under there with a flashlight and some time to poke around

Thanks. I'll poke around under the dash this evening and see what I can see. I tried to view your diagrams of the relays from your earlier post, but I wasn't allowed permission to see them. Guess I'm too new on the forum. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the diagrams. Those were a big help. Unfortunately, all the fuses and relays checked out OK, so it looks like it's time for a new wiper motor.

Do our wipers run on vacuum pressure like older Beemers do?

update: turns out it wasn't the motor after all. It was the wiper/washer switch. magaged to get a used one from Coventry West and everything works great now.

1-an actual wiring diagram?
2-The removal/replacement procedure for the switch/stalk?

Thanks
I can probably get you a wiring schematic off of alldatapro if you're interested.

As for the replacement procedure I can help you with that as well. I replaced my wiper switch approx 2 years ago and it is not difficult at all to do. Once you have the steering wheel removed it's 2 bolts and a wiring harness. PM me if you need more detailed information or want that schematic

I just resolved my wiper issue
it appeared that the connection under the dash was the culprit
after testing the contacts at the wiper switch at the wheel
and confirming power over the pre black connector. things are now working properly

you can test this very easy
under the dash, locate and separate the black wire block (remove the cover panel and look for the black connector next to a yellow of similar size) (right side, same as stalk)
once a part using a 5 inch piece of wire on the female block, locate the black wire and insert your jumper into the block at that position then find any of the greens and insert other end of jumper and see what happens
you have taken the switch out of the loop.
