97 xj6l no start
Hey techs my 1997 xj6L has served me right untill couple of days ago. u got home at midnight. and in the morning car will crank and wont start. i got a cheap scanner and looked for codes but got nothing. i changed the spark plugs and nothing. i can hear the fuel pump when i switch the key to on. also with a friend holding the #1 coil there was spark and the car started. but after putting the coil back it wont start again. I then tryd the same thing again but it wouldnt start. im stuck with no idea what the problem is. i cleaned all the connections for the crank and cam sensor also most of them in the engine bay.

yesturday the engine started normaly although it took longer than usual to start. it usually starts the very quick on the second crank but this time it took maybe 5 cranks. i left the car runing about an hour just sitting there and slightly reving the engine to charge the battery abit from all the cranking going on before. there was no problems. i turned it off a couple of times and it would start right up quickly after. but then again i come back a couple of hours later and it wont start anymore.

A few years back I had intermittent no-start issues with my 97 XJ6. That was followed by a permanent no-start condition. It took me a while to figure it out but in my case the problem was with the under-hood EEC relay. The relay coil circuit is fed an always live 12c source. In my car this 12v source had turned into a 3v source, a source without the power to trigger the relay. I ran a dedicated, fused, 12v source to the relay coil and I've never had a problem since.

i swapped some relays around but didnt help i measured with multimeter both relay sockets under the hood. the leftone(driver side) gave me 12v and the right one(passenger side) i tought was weird. gave me 12v on one side and 3.5v on the other side. this was with key in the ON position and relay removed.

dang nothing. i read the tachometer should jump to about 200rpm while cranking the engine when the crank sensor is good. and mine does that. the tachometer needle jumps lightly while cranking so im assuming the sensor is good. and the relays are good aswell. this issue is driving me nuts. feels like overnight some thief took a part of the jag needed to run the engine.
